I enjoy working with transparent and reflective objects as subjects in my paitings. The objects tell me stories as I work on them. " A Crowd Gathers" tells a story about an apparent accident. The other beer bottles are shocked. |

The neutral colors of the "brown" eggs are set against brilliant background colors in this series. "Eggs: Parade" won an award in New York City at the Broome Street Gallery.

I am always working on new things. Sometimes they grow into a new series. "Solo #2" is about angles of light and shadows. This theme is carried over to the 29 paintings in my "Granny Smith Series".

Fragments
These collage works were done from pieces of pastel paintings that I cropped or did not finish. They relate to my Jamacian (Grand Lido) paintings because of color and shapes. |

On the Road to San Remy #1 pastel (triptych) - 35 x 31 |

Monet's Lily Pond #2 pastel/mixed media 11 x 8 1/2 |
On a trip to Paris and Provence with a group of artists, I had the opportunity to paint and tour the beautiful scenery of France. I enjoyed the rustic landscape and the special light painted by so many great artists. Monet and Van Gough are two of my favorites. |

The subject of a 5 page article in the May/June 2002 issue of Pastel Journal Magazine, and featured in The book Pure Color: The Best of Pastel, the 29 paintings in this series explore the color green set in relationships with blue, orange and yellow backgrounds. The light source creates variations in the relationships of color and shapes. As with many of my paintings, the objects tell me stories which are reflected in the titles: "Granny Smith Big: On Stage shown has lighting that reminded me of a play on stage. |

I have been painting still life in settings for a few years now. Some of this new work will be seen in my show in New Your City this fall at the Broome Street Gallery. (see "Current Events" page) |

This series illustrates a concept I like my students to think about: that is, that parts of a subject can make interesting compositions just as well as the whole subject. |

Working with the still life at my feet, in the Looking Down Series, I believe I achieved one of my goals in painting: to have the viewer see the abstract relationships of shapes while painting realism. |

I sometimes begin a series and pick it up a few years later. This happened with "four Oranges and a Blue Spoon which was done two years before the other. I enjoy the abstract quality of these paintings which obviously have realistic subjects. |
